How did you get into kitesurfing?
I grew up in Hawaii where everyone surfs from a young age. I knew how to surf but wasn’t really into it. Then my dad taught me how to kite when I was 14 and I was hooked. I would go to the beach every day after school, and I learned how to shortboard a year later. Since then, I have loved being in the water as much as possible and am so grateful for the opportunities this sport has given me.
What do you do before getting in the water?
I love to get some yoga in before anything. But if the surf is good, sometimes I go out right after I wake up!
Tell us about your best kiting memory.
My best kite session was last year at a heavy slab wave. I got my deepest and biggest barrel yet and made it out. I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing for the rest of the session. And then the photo got on a cover!
Worst wipeout?
I have had many bad wipeouts but have always come up OK. I had a two-wave hold down surfing which was scary, I’ve had my leash wrap around my legs underwater kiting, and I’ve gotten a concussion from falling surfing. I just don’t want a foiling incident to get on this list!
Who would you like to say thank you to?
I would like to thank my parents for giving me the best life in one of the nicest places on earth, for my education, and for always supporting me.
A few words on your F-ONE quiver.
The BANDIT-S is amazing in the waves, and I think will help me progress my wave riding.
