Building up on his scores and tricks heat after heat, Chris unveiled a slew of impressive double backflips in the final to secure his fourth World Title overall,
but first in the relatively new Big Air discipline.

Chris had actually started this competition a bit slow, and even had to go through the repechage round after losing his very first heat.
That undoubtedly lit a fire under him, and from that point on, it seemed not much could be done to stop him.

Equipped with his latest STRIKE, the 18-year-old surprised the audience and the judges in the final by throwing one double backflip after the other,
a trick he had been practicing at home in Hood River and that he was saving for the final.
He landed it successfully on his first attempt here, and then again and again, to ultimately earn a 9.77 and 9.47 on his way to a 19.24 combined score for the win.

“It’s impressive how much the level has changed since last year,” he said. “After the first double, I knew I could do it and things were easier after that.”

Chris recorded the highest jump (11.9m) of the competition as well.

Teammate Luca Vuillermet also put up a good fight in Gran Canaria, qualifying all the way to the quarterfinals before ultimately falling to Chris, amongst others, in his heat.

Massive congratulations to our two riders for their superb showing here.
They will now reunite with the rest of our team and focus on the next GWA event in Surf-Freestyle and FreeFly-Slalom in Fuerteventura, starting on July 19.
